What is delamination:
Delamination is when layers within engineered flooring planks separate.
What causes delamination?
There are two different types of delamination:
1) BOND LINE FAILURE
This occurs when the adhesive between two layers of wood fails to hold the wood layers together. This is typically a manufacturing problem that happens because insufficient adhesive was applied, layers of wood have varied in thickness, or similar related issues. This is typically limited to just a few pieces out of an installation, and board replacement is the appropriate solution.
This is covered under the Somerset Limited Warranty as a structural issue.
2) WOOD FIBER FAILURE
Wood fiber failure, sometimes referred to as “shear” occurs when site conditions become severe (such as flooding of a floor, or extreme dryness) and the wood fiber itself is pulled apart by the stress.
This type of delamination is a site moisture condition, not a manufacturing problem, and as such, is excluded from coverage under the terms of the Somerset Limited Warranty.
